Armed Police Escort for Ballot Boxes - Police Spokesperson

Colombo (News 1st); Overall the voting for the 2020 General Election took place in a peaceful manner, said SSP Jaliya Senaratne, the Police Spokesperson.

Ballot Boxes will be sent to counting centers following the completion of the process to seal the boxes, he added.

Sri Lanka Police said it deployed 3067 armed mobile patrols to ensure the ballot boxes are protected adding an armed escort will be provided for each ballot box.

Further, he said, all the routes along which the ballot boxes will be transported will be covered with armed police mobile patrols adding the National Elections Commission has set up check-points to monitor the transportation of ballot boxes with armed police officers as well.

SSP Jaliya Senaratne went on to note all counting centers will be provided with full armed protection and every counting center will be provided with Police Special Task Force protection.
