Two underworld gang members arrested in Kotahena

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two members of organised criminal gangs were arrested in Kotahena. A close associate of underworld gang member "Kanjipani Imran" was arrested during a raid in Melwatte, Kotahena, Sri Lanka Police said. 1.8 grams of Heroin was also seized from the suspect's possession. According to Police, a case has been filed against the suspect by the Colombo Crimes Division, over the charges of aiding and abetting the murder of Asha Parik Kamaldeen, who shot dead on the 14th of February 2019. The 30-year-old suspect, a resident of Maithree Bodhiraja Mawatha, Colombo 12, will be produced at the Maligakanda Magistrates Court on Monday (July 27). Another underworld gang member was arrested during a raid conducted down Kotahena Maha Vidyala Mawatha on Sunday evening (July 26). According to Police the suspect had maintained close contacts with notorious underworld gang member "Makadure Madush" and "Mohommed Hussein Mohommed Rizkan" who was killed near the Hulftsdorp Church in 2018. The 43-year-old suspect who is a resident of Wellampitiya, will be produced at the No. 5 court of the Hulftsdorp court complex.
