All sailors in Welisara cluster recovered

Welisara Naval Complex COVID-19 cluster no more; All infected sailors recovered

Colombo (News 1st); All 906 sailors attached to the Sri Lanka Navy who were infected with COVID-19 and were detected in the cluster reported at the Welisara Naval Complex have recovered in full and have been discharged from hospital.

With the last three Coronavirus positive sailors recovering in the Welisara Complex cluster, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) confirmed that the navy coronavirus cluster has been completely controlled.

SLN Spokesman Captain Indika De Silva said today (21) the recently recovered sailors would be subjected to another 14- days self-quarantine, adhering to healthcare guidelines.

Welisara Naval Base resumed its normal operations on June 22nd following the healthcare guidelines issued by the health authorities.  

Welisara Navy Hospital was also re-opened for outdoor patients on July 10th after 77-days of closure and now continues its duties since normalcy was restored.

SLN stopped routine hospital duties on April 24th, following the admission of coronavirus positive sailors attached to the Welisara Naval complex.
