COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government has taken measures to prevent the spreading of COVID- 19 in the society and instructed relevant authorities to conduct a formal investigation into those who spread false information, the Government Information Department said on Wednesday.
“The government has taken maximum measures to prevent the spread of the virus within the community, following the emergence of a new COVID-19 cluster at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre – Kandakadu,” Nalaka Kaluwewa – the Director-General of Government Information, pointed out in a statement.
Accordingly, identification of infected individuals, contact tracing, PCR testing and quarantine measures are underway.
However, the Director-General of Government Information is of the view that certain individuals are trying to spread false propaganda by identifying those directed into quarantine as COVID-19 infected cases.
“Some people are also spreading misinformation on the imposition of curfew and declaration of holidays, amidst a spike in COVID-19 cases. Taking this into account, the Government has reiterated that NO such decision was reached.” the statement further read.
Accordingly, DG of Government Information, Nalaka Kaluwewa informed the general public not to be deceived by false propaganda and to act with understanding in a responsible manner.
