COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police on Tuesday (July 14) arrested the tipper truck driver responsible for running over a group of police officers in Kirinda on Monday night (July 13).
“The suspect was arrested at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday (July 14) in Ranala which comes under the purview of Hungama Police jurisdiction,” the Police Headquarters noted in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
According to Police, the tipper truck driver is a 34-year-old resident of Uhapitagoda, Ambalanthota.
The arrested suspect will be produced at the Matara Magistrate Court on Wednesday (July 15), and Hakmana Police is conducting further investigations.
A 36-year-old Police Constable attached to the Hakmana Police died in the incident on Monday, while two Police Sergeants who sustained severe injuries in the accident were admitted to the Matara Hospital for treatment.
