Petition filed with CA seeking immediate arrest of Karuna Amman

Colombo (News 1st); A petition was filed with the Court of Appeal seeking a writ of mandamus be issued on the Acting Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias 'Karuna Amman'.

The petition was filed by Kaduwela Municipal Councillor Boseth Kalahepathirana based on a statement made by Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan where he(Karuna Amman) had stated: "Karuna Amman who killed 2000 to 3000 Army Soldiers in one night, is more dangerous than COVID-19".

Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias 'Karuna Amman', the Attorney General, and the Acting Inspector General of Police were named as respondents in the petition.

The petitioner pointed out based on the statement made by Karuna Amman at an election campaign meeting, it is evident he is a criminal who intentionally committed mass murder.

The petitioner seeks for the statement to be considered as a confession and legal action be instituted against Karuna Amman.

Kaduwela Municipal Councillor Boseth Kalahepathirana requests the Court of Appeal to take action against Karuna Amman based on the provisions of the Evidence Ordinance, Penal Code, Prevention of Terrorism Act and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
