Colombo (News 1st); The Government has decided to bear a portion of the electricity bills for the months of March and April of 2020.
Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera said the Cabinet of Ministers in its weekly meeting on Wednesday (08) agreed to provide maximum relief to consumers facing difficulties as a result of the high electricity charges.
The Minister pointed out domestic electricity consumption was at a high as the general public were confined to their homes for almost two months in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mahinda Amaraweera said as it was the Government of Sri Lanka that instructed the public to remain indoors, it decided to share a portion of the electricity bills which were increased.
The report of the committee appointed by the Ministers to make recommendations on providing relief to the consumers was presented to the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday.
The Minister said the Cabinet of Ministers agreed to provide maximum relief to the consumers without limiting to only the recommendations made by the committee in its report.
