Applications for ID cards extended

The Department of Registration of Persons said they will continue to receive applications for new Identity cards until the 17th of this month, in order for voters to be able to exercise their franchise at the upcoming General Election. Only a temporary identification paper will be issued after the 17th of July adding that the issuing of this temporary certificate will continue only until the 29th of July, Commissioner-General of the Department Viyani Gunethilaka said. They will take no responsibility regarding any applications received after the 29th of July, The Commissioner-General also said. He said, according to instructions issued by the National Elections Commission, District Secretariats will also cease issuing temporary identification documents after the 29th of July.
