Police suspect man who acted suspiciously at a Mannar Church is mentally-ill

Colombo (News 1st);  Sri Lanka Police launched an investigation after a suspicious man had entered a church in Pesalai, Mannar recently.

The investigation is taking place following a complaint made by a church priest who was alerted by a woman present at the premises.

The suspicious man had entered the premises on Saturday (04) afternoon and police investigated CCTV footage to locate him after Bishop of Mannar Emmanuel Fernando also made a complaint to the security forces.

The man was arrested on Monday (06) at St. Mary's Cathedral in Jaffna.

Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne speaking to News 1st said the man was identified to be a resident of Wankalai in Mannar and was detained by the Mannar Police.

Sri Lanka Police suspect the man may be suffering from a mental illness and also discovered several clothes inside a bag in his possession.
