Colombo (News 1st); The post-mortem examination on the tusker found dead close to the Inginimitiya Reservoir revealed the pachyderm had died of brain damage caused by a bullet.
Wildlife Veterinarian for the North-West Zone Dr. Isuru Kottage who performed the post-mortem on Monday (29) said the tusker was shot at from a high vantage-point around 05 days ago and the bullet he pierced the skin on the tusker’s neck and proceeded towards the brain.
He suspects an automatic weapon may have been used to poach the tusker.
Our correspondent reports the tusker was around 40 years old at the time of death and its tusks were around 18 inches long.
News 1st Correspondent for Galgamuwa believes the dead tusker could be the same tusker recently seen at the Galgamuwa Bim Pokuna Temple eating mangoes.
