COLOMBO (News1st): Trade unions have urged the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to install three cranes that had been procured to develop the East Container Terminal at the Colombo Port. "...it has been five days since the authorities have not taken any steps to set them up," Lal Bangamuwage, the President of the Independent Port Workers' Union said. On January 30, cabinet approval had been granted to commence development activities at the East Container Terminal, following which the cranes had been purchased on June 20. Meanwhile, another union has written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa urging the development of the terminal under the SLPA, as promised in his manifesto.
