Woman proven guilty of smuggling Heroin to Welikada Prison sentenced to life imprisonment

COLOMBO (News 1st): Colombo High Court Judge, Pradeep Hettiarachchi on Wednesday (June 17) handed down life imprisonment on a 60-year-old woman found of guilty of smuggling 3.6 grams of Heroin concealed inside her body, to the Welikada Prison. The suspect was placed in remand custody on the 30th of April 2013, by the Maligakanda Magistrates Court, after she was arrested by Prison Intelligence Officers while attempting to smuggle Heroin, to the Welikada Prison. Delivering the verdict in the case, against the convict - Shriyani Mala Senanayake, the Colombo High Court Judge held, the two indictments filed against her were proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The convict was sentenced on both indictments, individually. During the evidence examination, it was revealed the convict had smuggled 216 packets of Heroin concealed inside her body, to the prison premises.
