COLOMBO (News1st): When wild elephants destroyed the home of Swarna Malkanthi, a mother of one, in Mahiyanganaya, her only hope was to find a roof above her head. On April 18, wild elephants destroyed the entire home of Malkanthi, leaving behind a deep agony, and sending her family homeless. "If someone can help us at this time, it would be a great blessing," were some of the words uttered by the teary eyed mother who spoke to News 1st. "When it rains, we don't have any place to seek shelter," her husband adds. However, a kind hearted donor had come forward to construct a home for this family, through the Gammadda initiative of News 1st. The foundation stone of the house was laid today. Within a month, Malkanthi and her family who are now seeking shelter at a makeshift house under a tree, will receive a house, ending a streak of suffering.
