COLOMBO (News 1st): “The U.S employee in question arrived in the country after receiving approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” The U.S. Embassy in a statement said.
Upon inquiry by News 1st, the U.S. Embassy said “The employee complied with Government of Sri Lanka entrance procedures.”
“Diplomat is currently in quarantine at his residence,” the U.S. Embassy said.
Issuing twitter message, US Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz said yesterday’s proposed demonstration opposite the embassy in Colombo, was denied by the Police due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.
Rights to peaceful assembly & free speech are cornerstones of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – rights the US supports even when difficult for us. Today’s proposed demonstration in front of our Embassy was denied by #LKA police due to C-19 restrictions on gatherings.
