COLOMBO (News1st): Three proposed cricket stadiums in the country have shown very little progress, amidst plans to construct the country's largest cricket stadium in Diyagama. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman Ravin Wickramaratne had previously said that an international cricket stadium would be constructed on a 20 acre land in Thiraimadu, Trincomalee. Discussions have also been held with cricket clubs in Trincomalee in this regard. "The plan has been approved and construction will begin in the near future," T. Saravanabhavan, the Trincomalee Mayor said in a statement. Meanwhile, the proposed indoor cricket stadium which was proposed to be built in Naruwikkulam in Mannar at a cost of Rs 193.3 million, has also shown very little progress. The foundation stone had been laid from January 27, 2017, during the tenure of the then sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara. In addition, the proposed international cricket stadium in Mandaitivu, which had drawn the attention of foreign media, has also showed slow progress. A sum of 100 million rupees had been allocated in 2017 to commence construction of the stadium.
