Youth dies due to drowning in Balangoda

COLOMBO (News1st): A 21-year old youth has died after drowning in the Samanal Wewa in Balangoda on Friday evening. The victim had gone to bathe in the river along with three friends who said they were unable to rescue the victim. "I threw something towards him to hold on to, but he couldn't and he drowned," a friend, who was present at the time of the incident said. Navy personnel had assisted in retrieving the body of the youth. Meanwhile, the president of a life saving body has observed that people have been going on tours due to the extended holiday amidst the coronavirus. "...when its water related activity, these days the currents too may be dangerous," Asanka Nanayakkara, the President of Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) said. He pointed out that health officials have not permitted tours amidst the coronavirus.
