Pope Francis raises voice on American violence

Pope Francis on Wednesday said that the world cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion and claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. Pope Francis has called for national reconciliation in the United States as the country closes in on nearly a week of violence following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Police brutality in Minneapolis. “I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd. We cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life,” Pope Francis said on Wednesday Speaking at his weekly General Audience. Pope Francis speaking about the protests in the United States condemn the violence of recent nights and called the actions 'self-destructive' and 'self-defeating'. The Pope concluded his remarks with an invitation to prayer.
