The farming community in the D8 Ela,Athiparayaya village in Dambulla have been severely inconvenienced due to the inability to sell the harvest of the previous season due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The farmers also inconvenienced due to the shortage of fertilizer and have affected cultivation activities this season. But the Director at the National Fertilizer Secretariat, Mahesh Gammanpila denied the fertilizer shortage. "There are adequate stocks in the country to meet the demand at present," when News 1st inquired Mahesh Gammanpila said. However, he informed the public to use fertilizer carefully, given the current situation. Starting this month, a receipt will be issued when purchasing fertilizer, to avoid the irregularities when selling and purchasing fertilizer, Mahesh Gammanpila said. He further noted, legal action will be filed against traders who fail to issue a bill for following an investigation into complaints.
