Colombo (News 1st): The 35 Seychelles nationals were brought to Sri Lanka to promote ‘medical tourism’, SLPP Anuradhapura Candidate Dr Channa Jayasumana said on Wednesday. “This is ‘medical tourism’. The opportunity has been provided to a certain group to obtain medical treatment in the country,” Dr Channa Jayasumana said when questioned about the 35 Seychelles nationals who were allowed to enter the country while many Sri Lankans remained stranded in Seychelles. The opposition criticized the government for this move and questioned why the government allowed them to be brought into the country, while 350 Sri Lankans currently residing in Seychelles for work, education or other activities remain stranded. Dr Jayasumana said there will be more opportunities like this in the future and that the country should utilize these opportunities. “This matter has been wrongly interpreted,” Dr Jayasumana said.
