COLOMBO (News1st): Parking fees would be charged for vehicles in Colombo from Thursday, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said, despite an ongoing curfew in the capital district.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the CMC said it would levy parking fees “with the relaxation of curfew regulations in a bid to restore normalcy in the country”.
However, the curfew is yet to be lifted in the districts of Colombo and Gampaha which have been identified as high-risk zones for the spread of the coronavirus.
The toll would be collected by traffic wardens or authorized parking operators.
Failure to pay these fees could be subjected to legal action or tyre locking, while a fine would be imposed for late payments, according to the notice.
In April, the municipal authority said that it has not authorized any entity to collect parking fees in Colombo city roads during the ongoing curfew.
