COLOMBO (News 1st): The prevailing showery condition over the island particularly in the south-western part of Sri Lanka is likely to continue further.
This is due to the Super Cyclonic Storm ”AMPHAN” over west-central Bay of Bengal and neighborhood.
The Department of Meteorology said the Super Cyclonic Storm is very likely to move north-northeast towards west Bengal coast on Wednesday (May 20)
Prevailing showery condition in the South-western part of the country particularly in Southern,
Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces are expected to continue further.
Issuing an advisory the Department of Meteorology predicts very heavy falls above 150 mm to occur at some places in Nuwara-Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kaluthara, Galle, and Matara districts during next 24 hours.
Wind speed can also increase up to 50-60 kmph at times over the island.
The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity during thundershowers.
