Colombo (News 1st); The one day service for the issuance of National Identity Cards will remain suspended, the Department of Registration of Persons announced on Wednesday.
However, a special program is in place to issue National Identity Cards for urgent requirements such as to face examinations, interviews, obtain drivers licenses, and passports.
A statement from the Department of Registration of Persons said an application certified by the Grama Niladhari Officer, depending on the requirement of the application must be directed to the Identity Card Division of the local Divisional Secretariat.
Thereafter, officers would enter the data to the system and the National ID Card would be sent to the applicant via registered post.
The statement adds all applicants who prepared their applications before the 16th of March for the One-Day service must hand over their applications to the Identity Card Division of their respective Local Divisional Secretariats.
