Total COVID-19 cases rise to 755

COLOMBO (News 1st): The total number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has risen to 755 as of statistics from the Epidemiology Unit updated at 8:30 am on Tuesday (05th May). Thereby, 04 more patients have tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. A total of 33 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the country on Monday. "Of the 33 cases confirmed yesterday, 31 were Sri Lanka Navy personnel & the other two were detected from quarantine camps," told Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva - Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, speaking to News 1st on Tuesday. The Army Commander said, by morning of Tuesday, in total 327 Naval personnel had contracted the virus and one naval officer was dicharged following complete recovery on Monday. There are 553 active COVID-19 patients receiving medical treatment as of Tuesday morning. The total number of recoveries in the country stands at 194. COVID-19 has so far claimed the lives of 08 people. The eighth death of COVID-19 was confirmed on Monday, by Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director General of Health Services. The deceased was a 72 year old female; a resident of Polpithigama in Kurunegala. Dr. Jasinghe said the victim passed away while receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the Homagama Base Hospital.
