60 people at the Welisara Navy Camp tested positive for COVID-19

Colombo (News 1st); Tests carried out at the Welisara Navy Camp confirmed another 30 people had contracted the coronavirus, raising the total number of people who contracted COVID-19 at the Navy Camp to 60. This was confirmed by Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the National Operations Centre for Preventing COVID-19. He stressed the Navy Camp remains a no-go zone and all those in the camp have been quarantine and those who associated the COVID-19 patients, the barracks, and other premises have been identified and many have been subject to tests. The Army Commander stressed, all those who have associated these sailors and gone on leave were ordered report back to the Welisara Navy Camp immediately. He added, the Navy Commander had prepared a separate Quarantine Facility for the families of these families to undergo quarantine. The Army Commander emphasized, all those suspected of having contracted the virus have been recalled, the general public should not have any fear over the situation. 10 people who completed the mandatory quarantine period at the Punani Quarantine Facility were released today increasing the total number of people released from quarantine to 4376. The Army Commander said 2869 continue to remain at 29 quarantine facilities in the country. He went on to note, a special repatriation flight by Sri Lankan Airlines with 76 students from Nepal were taken to the Punani Quarantine Facility upon arrival.
