Thundershowers expected in five provinces

COLOMBO (News1st): The meteorological department has predicted that thundershowers could be experienced across five provinces until 11:30 pm today (March 13). Thundershowers could be experienced in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Central, and Uva Provinces, and the district of Galle and Matara, the weather authority said. "Temporarily strong gusty winds up to 70 to 80 kmph is also possible during thundershowers," the department noted. Accordingly, the meteorological department advised the public to avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies, during thunderstorms. The public has also been advised to exercise precaution over fallen trees and power lines.
