Colombo (News 1st) : Sri Lanka Police said 11 people were arrested and legal action was instituted against them for spreading false content on social media, related to COVID-19.
Among the arrested are a Former Presidential Staff Member, a Doctor, University Administration Officer and a University Student.
Police said investigations are also taking place on 70 separate incidents of spreading false information across social media platforms with the intention of sabotaging the measures taken to combat COVID-19.
Sri Lanka Police added, several teams are in search of those who are spreading false content on social media and several arrests are likely to be made in the coming days.
Police is also investigating those who post content on social media to mislead the general public.
