COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Sri Lanka Medical Association has requested the President to take immediate measures to prevent the public from gathering at supermarkets and retail outlets after the curfew is lifted on Tuesday (March 24). In a letter to the President, the SLMA said that the benefits achieved by imposing the curfew will be undone if people gather in large numbers to purchase essential items such as food. Accordingly, the SLMA proposed a mechanism to distribute dry rations and other essential items among low income earning households. The letter cited an example of which packs containing essential items could be delivered in high-risk areas such as Colombo, Puttalam and the Gampaha districts, for a concessionary price with the support of the tri-forces. The letter read "If this can be done, curfew can be continued to get the maximum benefit of it in curtailing the spread of COVID 19 infection".
