General elections cannot be held as scheduled : Polls Chief

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Election Commission today (March 19) announced that the general election cannot be held, as scheduled, on April 25, 2020 due to the prevailing situation of COVID-19.

Chairman of the National Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya during a media briefing held today said that even if the World Health Organisation and domestic health authorities announce that COVID-19 will no longer be an issue for the country by tomorrow, the National Elections Commission cannot conduct the election on the April 25.
