COLOMBO (News 1st):- A media briefing was held today (March 14) with regard to the prices of essential goods. Speaking at the press briefing, Co-Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Bandula Gunawardane said;
"There was a situation where everyone started to stock up essential goods, out of panic. Yesterday, I engaged in a tour of the Fort wholesale market, to get an understanding about the prices of products. There are ample stocks of essential goods for the upcoming New year season. By next week, the prices of certain essential goods will reduce further. There is no shortage of anything. Stocking goods will only result in a loss rather than any profit or benefit."
He was also questioned on whether a state of emergency will be declared and parliament be reconvened? To which he replied that although parliament is currently dissolved, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, along with the cabinet has managed the situation well.  He adds that the president is not of the view that a such a situation will arise.
