COLOMBO (News 1st):- 316,183 people belonging to over 80,068 families are facing distress by the drought that has affected 5 provinces of the country.
In the newest report released by the Disaster Management Centre, it was identified that the areas affected by the prevailing drought are Kegalle, Rathnapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kaluthara, Gampaha, Puttalam and Mathara districts. The most affected being the Kaluthara district.
Due to the salty water that has been mixed to the Kalu Ganga and the prevailing drought in the Kaluthara district nearly 215,525 people are currently in distress.
