Colombo (News 1st) - The High Commission of Bangladesh in Colombo issuing a press release today, notes with concern the news reports in some Local Press and Media today alleging involvement of Bangladeshi nationals in a reported case of abduction of a 10-year-old Sri Lankan girl in Kandy. On the 7th of March, Police arrested the following four Bangladesh nationals in Katugastota. As they were produced before a Magistrate Court on the same afternoon, the Court ordered to detain them in Pallekale Prison until 17th of March as their alleged 'offense' was not proved in primary level investigations. They are expected to be released on the 18th of March. The High Commission notes that it inquired of the matter with Senior Police Officials in Colombo and Kandy Division, including the Officer-In-Charge of Katugastota Police Station. It has been established that the whole episode surfaced essentially owing to misunderstanding and gaps in linguistic communication. It is reported that the Bangladeshi nationals were on their way to their sites, for official work.
