COLOMBO (News 1st):- It has been revealed that nearly 4000 acres of land owned by the Railway Department have been taken over illegally by various people.

A senior officer at the department said that the railway has lost a big income due to various individuals encroaching on these lands over a long period of time. He further said that although legal action has been sought, justice has still not been granted.

The total land area owned by the Railway Department presently is 12,000 acres.
