Colombo (News 1st) - Mannar has recorded the highest volume of Micro-plastics compared to other parts of Sri Lanka.
This is according to a joint study carried out in Sri Lanka by the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency or NARA and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
A statement from the Department of Government Information said Micro-plastics were observed in the coastal areas of the Southern Province and Negombo and in the marine live in the respective areas.
Micro-plastics are small plastic pieces less than 05 mm long. and are found in our oceans, our rivers, our air, but also our food, bottled water, and tap water.
Micro-plastics are now the subject of a health review by the World Health Organisation.
