Heroin ring busted; six taken into custody

COLOMBO (News 1st):- Six individuals including two women who were involved in a heroin racket has been arrested from Dalthara, Piliyandala. The police said that the arrest was made following a raid conducted based on a tip-off received to the officials of the Fraud prevention unit of Mount Lavinia. The haul of heroin discovered from their possession which weighs 500g is valued at over Rs. 6 million. Investigations revealed that the chief suspect who was arrested had rented a house and along with the other suspects had engaged in the task of packing the heroin and distributing it island-wide. The arrested individuals are aged 17, 27, 28, 36, 47 and 52. The group that was arrested last evening (February 22) is due to be presented before the Kasbewa Magistrate today (February 23).
