124 schools to be converted into national schools - Ministry of Education

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The report of the survey to identify schools qualified to be named as national schools has been handed over to the Ministry of Education by the relevant committee. Secretary of the Ministry, M. H. M. Chithrananda said that 124 schools have thereby qualified for the purpose. These schools have been selected from divisional secretariats with no national schools. The secretary noted that the process of converting these schools to national schools will commence in the coming months. Through this program, the number of national schools in the country is set to increase to 497. Under the initiative to establish 1000 national schools, the Ministry of Education will further be conducting surveys to establish more national schools.
