India to develop schools in Sri Lankan estate sector

Colombo (News 1st) - India and Sri Lanka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to uplift schools in plantation areas. An official at the Indian High Commission told News 1st that construction activities are expected to conclude within a year after the commencement of the project. The agreement had been signed between Acting Indian High Commissioner Vinod. K. Jacob and Secretary to the Ministry of Education N.H.M. Chitrananda. According to the agreement, nine schools are to be developed in terms of infrastructure under an Indian grant of Rs 300 million. Among the selected schools are six schools in the plantation sectors of the Central Province and one school each in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern Provinces.
