Colombo (News 1st) – Tourist arrivals in the country recorded 228,434 during the month of January, a decline of 6.5% from same month of last year. A report released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority showed that there was a surge in tourist arrivals from the European region.

According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority India, China, United Kingdom, Russian Federation, and Germany are the top 5 sources of tourist arrivals in the month of January.

Regional breakdown of tourist traffic into Sri Lanka:

1) Europe – 113,601 – 50%
2) Asia and Pacific – 92,201 – 40%
3) America – 14,224 – 6%
4) Middle east – 7,111 – 3%
5) Africa – 1,297 – 1%
