Colombo (News 1st) - A project to develop 100,000 kilometers of alternate and rural roads was launched today under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The inauguration ceremony was held in Galaha, Peradeniya today. Work commenced today on developing the Galaha, Delthota - Rikillagaskada road. Speaking at the occasion President Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that the best defense officials in the country have been appointed to all sectors beginning with the position of defense secretary. The President noted that the intelligence apparatus has been strengthened and guaranteed that he would not allow secessionist terrorism or religious extremist terrorism to raise its head once again. The President went onto state that he would uphold his promise not to interfere with the judiciary and the rule of law but hoped that the independence of the judiciary would be utilized appropriately. While stating that he trusts the Chief Justice, the President noted that the freedom granted to the judiciary should not be misconstrued as a weakness of the Government. President Rajapaksa believes that the strong governance system of the country has been weakened through the 19th amendment and noted that he hopes to change this in order to bring back a strong executive and a strong government to serve the people.
