Colombo (News 1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he would dissolve the Parliament at the first chance he gets. He expressed his ideas at Hali-Ela, Ettampitiya. The Ettampitiya  Water Treatment Plant was completed at a cost of Rs. 2.24 billion and was declared open under the auspices of the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. PM Mahinda Rajapaksa said;
"We are introducing a new bill to pay back the existing loans. When we introduce that bill the opposition can defeat it because we have a minority in the parliament. If it gets rejected it will be a major obstacle for the country's development. The opposition thinks that we want to defeat them in the election because of our personal satisfaction. After tomorrow's parliamentary session, there will be only two or three parliamentary sessions. We can dissolve the Parliament in March. The President and the cabinet have taken the desition to dissolve the parliament as soon as possible. Once the parliament is dissolved we will call for a general election and contest. We will win the elections and take the country forward. Unlike the previous government we will not sleep and wait, we will not boast and take revenge on our political rivals. Under the previous regime, there was a scam regarding the Central Bank bond scam. Yesterday the Maha Sangha asked me what was going to happen. We have sent it to the Attorney General. We will implement the law on that front. We are ready to investigate further into this matter."
The Prime Minister was speaking about the views expressed by Professor Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Anunahimi during an event held at the Aluthgama Kande Viharaya yesterday (Feb 16). Professor Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Anunahimi yesterday noted;
"It would have been good if the opposition leader was also here with the Prime Minister. I have one thing to say. In the recent past the general public together with the Ven. Theros and many people feel great about Buddhism joined hands and said that the path that this country is on isn't a good one. The theft and corruption in this country must stop. The Maha Sangha spoke about the things that we saw. We did those things because we care. We wanted this to change and so you were brought into power. The people of this country brought you to power. The Prime Minister must fulfill the people's aspirations. During the latter part of the previous government, the bond scam was discussed extensively, but still, we haven't been able to do anything about it. Commission after commission is being appointed to investigate it. They speak of punishing these perpetrators, but you still couldn't finish punishing them. The incident where churches were bombed was a clear case, many people know who is responsible for it. Although they say we will catch these criminals, nothing has been done. I don't know if you are waiting to do something when you get more power? Or if you are just evading the matter? That is all I have to say."
