Colombo (News 1st): Railway workers engaged in a protest today (Feb 13) expressing their displeasure that a cabinet paper has still not being issued making their employment permanent as promised. Earlier, the railway workers who were hired on a contract basis, conducted protests at the Railway station, Ratmalana Terminal and the Presidential Secretariat requesting the authorities to make their employment permanent. The protest ended upon a promise made by the Minister in Charge, Mahinda Amaraweera, to issue a cabinet paper, in favour of the protesters' request. However, today the Railway workers who assembled at the Railways Head Quarters said, there is no sign of the promise being fulfilled.
