Geological Survey and Mines Bureau to conduct a study of river bed mineral deposits

Colombo (News 1st) - The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau notes that they will be undertaking a study of all mineral deposits in rivers and lakes across the country. Director-General of the bureau D.D. Siriwardene noted that decisions on issuing sand permits will be taken after conducting this survey. Siriwardene urged the general public to report illegal sand mining operations in their areas through the dedicated hotline 1921. He added that reported locations would be raided with the assistance of the Police STF.
