CCD tells court, Acting IGP yet to advice on Gihan Pilapitiya

Colombo (News 1st): The Officer in Charge of the Colombo Crimes Division, Chief Inspector Neville De Silva informed Nugegoda Additional Magistrate Harris Palpola, the Acting IGP is yet to advice the CCD on arresting interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya and producing him in court. Chief Inspector De Silva also informed court, the investigating officer would appear to provide evidence as per a court order given last evening. Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara, appearing for the Attorney General noted, as it appears the Acting IGP is yet to direct the Colombo Crimes Division on judicial measures required to be taken with regard to interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya as per the advice given by the Attorney General on the 23rd of January, requested court to allocate a separate date to inquire in to the matter. President's Counsel Ali Sabry, representing the rights of Gihan Pilapitiya said the Bar Association of Sri Lanka appointed a committee of 06 President's Counsel's to make recommendations on how to proceed regarding a matter of this nature. He added, the recommendations would be discussed with the Attorney General soon. President's Counsel Ali Sabry further said the BASL believes the matter should be dealt with in a manner which protects the reputation of the judiciary and law professionals. The matter was postponed to the 26th of February.
