11,816 suspected dengue cases reported in January, 2020

Colombo (News 1st): According to the Epidemiology Unit, 11,816 suspected dengue cases were reported from all over the island in the month of January 2020. Approximately 25.4 % of dengue cases were reported from the Western province. Director of the National Dengue Eradication Unit, Specialist Dr. Aruna Jayasekara said this was a reduction compared to December of 2019. However, he requested the general public to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions. He added that a new project to combat the dengue menace was soon to be introduced.
