Colombo (News 1st): At a time when many call on the authorities to intensify the crackdown on drugs and other illegal substances, a Parliamentarian from Puttlam called on law enforcement not to conduct raids on Moonshine and Cannabis.

The MP identified as Ashok Priyantha in his explanation to the Puttlam District Development Committee meeting said Moonshine and Cannabis are used by the poor people and they are local products, therefore there is no requirement for a crackdown.

But, he wanted authorities to conduct raids on heroin and various other pills.

The comments by the MP brought about several smirks at the Development Committee Meeting and a comment from a fellow MP calling for a proper program to be enforced to crack down on all forms of illegal substances in the entire Puttlam District.
