COLOMBO (News 1st):- Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa states that he requested the Indian government to stall the period of repaying the debt owed to India by three years. The Prime Minister made this statement while joining an interview with "The Hindu" newspaper. He further says that the request to extend the debt repayable period was until the economy of the country is reviewed, while also saying that if India does this favour for Sri Lanka that other countries including China will agree for the same. He added that everything retains on the stance of India. "The Hindu" newspaper also inquired the Prime Minister on the Rs. 5 billion of debt servicing that Sri Lanka is liable to pay; the highest value reported in its history.
