COLOMBO (News 1st):- The National Child Protection Authority states that there has been a spike in the number of child abuse and violation of child rights reported in the year.
Chairman of the Authority, Professor Muditha Vidanapathirana says they have received 800 complaints so far. The highest number of complaints have been recorded due to assaults by parents and teachers.
He says that they have decided to initiate programs at school level to create awareness on reducing child abuse.
When News 1st inquired State Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Vijitha Berugoda, on the matter, he said that they have already implemented a number of measures to protect child rights.
