Colombo (News 1st): Assistant officers of the Health Ministry’s National Dengue Control Unit called off their protest following an assurance given by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to award them jobs under the government’s special recruitment programme.

The assistant officers who had been staging protests frequently began a demonstration at the Agitation Site near the Presidential Secretariat this morning as well. Among their demands were to reinstate them in service and to grant them retirement allowances.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa met with the protesters this afternoon. The protesters dispersed following the statement made by the President.
