Ranjith Madduma Bandara appointed as General Secretary of New Political movement

Colombo (News 1st): The Parliamentary group of the United National Front has decided to appoint Ranjith Madduma Bandara as the General Secretary of the New Political movement to be formed under the Leadership of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa recently decided that Ranjith Madduma Bandara be appointed the General Secretary of the New Political Force. Subsequently, on the request of the opposition leader to present the stance of the MP's, This decision was approved by MPs Ranjith Aluvihare and Thushara Indunil. Sajith Premadasa is to lead this political movement that is created with the United National Front as its base. A statement from the opposition leaders office said the opposition leader will be appointed as the nomination committee chairman and the prime ministerial nominee. He will also be responsible for implementing the election mechanism. UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella noted that they all agreed to move forward despite all sorts of disputes which arose earlier. He said that next Monday the working committee will convene and after a long time everyone has decided to come to one stance and extend support. Meanwhile, MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara invited all political factions who are ready to raise a voice against the unjust ruling of this government to join hands with them to achieve victory in the upcoming general election.

Journalist: Should the working committee approve the nomination of you as the General Secretary ? MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara: That won't be an issue. We discussed this. We do not want to discuss that in public. Journalist: 4 individuals have been removed from the working committee have you taken any action regarding this? MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara: They will most probably be a part of the next working committee. Journalist: How will the working committee be appointed? MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara: The Chairman of the nomination committee will be the leader of the Alliance. All political parties will be part of the nomination committee. Journalist: Now what will happen to the Leader? MP Ashok Abeysinghe: The alliance consists of a number of parties. All those parties have their leaders. For an example the leader of the Hela Urumaya is Champika Ranawaka. The leader of the UNP is Ranil Wickremesinghe. This is an alliance. An alliance consists of a large number of parties. The leadership of all those parties will be held by Sajith Premadasa.
