Hemasiri Fernando granted bail after more than 04 months in remand

Colombo (News 1st) -  Ex-Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando who was arrested and remanded for failing in his duty to prevent the April 21st attacks from taking place was granted bail today by the Colombo High Court. His bail application was taken up for consideration by Colombo High Court judge Manjula Thilakeratne and was ordered to be released on a cash bail 250,000 Rupees and two sureties of 2.5 Million Rupees each. A bail condition imposed today was that the two bondsmen must be residents of Colombo. In addition, Hemasiri Fernando was ordered by court to present himself to the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department on the final Sunday of every month. The Ex-Secretary of Defense was ordered not to threaten or influence the witnesses from the prosecution and not cause any interference with the investigations taking place. Hemasiri Fernando was barred from traveling overseas as well. When his bail application was taken up today, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General said he would not oppose granting bail to the accused, as he was detained in remand custody for more than 04 months. The Attorney General filed a revision application requesting for the bail order by the Magistrate Court be made void. After considering the revision application, the High Court ordered for Hemasiri Fernando to be remanded until the 09th of September.
