Truth behind 04/21 attacks yet to be discovered : Prof G.L. Pieris

Colombo (News 1st) The ruling party and the opposition today, expressed the following views, with regard to punishing those responsible for the 04/21 attacks. Professor G.L Peiris, Chairman – SLPP commented: One of the main tasks of government that is elected after the upcoming general election will be to find the truth about the 04/21 attacks. The truth behind these attacks is yet to be discovered. The Yahapalanaya government did not look into this matter properly. They protected their associates. Certain factions were not questioned or arrested. Some left the country. We must revisit this matter, and ensure no one is protected. We must conduct an unbiased investigation into this. UNP MP S.M. Marikkar speaking on the 04/21 attacks said: After the attacks in April and during the lead to elections, they claimed our country was under threat, and it was the last chance to save our country. They pledged, once they come to power, they will arrest everyone responsible for the attacks within a period of two weeks. So what happened to the two weeks? In my view, the government will not arrest and punish those responsible for the attack. The 1st year remembrance of the April attacks will fall during the general election. I propose that those responsible for the attacks should be punished and sentenced to death.
